Catharina Josepha Pratten

Catharina Josepha Pratten (known professionally as Madame Sidney Pratten; born 1821 in Mülheim am Rhein – died October 10, 1895, in London) was an eminent German-born guitarist, composer, and educator. She became the most influential figure for the guitar in 19th-century England.

  • Musical Lineage: Born the daughter of the esteemed German guitarist Ferdinand Pelzer, music was central to her upbringing. After moving to England, she received rigorous training under her father’s guidance.
